Poem
1. Outside
A wide sweep of stillness
A world breathing quietly
Hills wrapped and folded like a sari
Primroses grace the gaps between the fallen trees
In a valley, tucked beside a stream
Under cloud and wrapped around with pines
Welcomed by a flutter of doves
Green larches, greenfinches, grey herons
The sound of the stream over there and over there.
2. Inside
A room where the sofas eat you up
And words fall from the walls
Heads bent in concentration
Watched over by St Columba
Enveloped by armchairs and friendship
Welcome that embraces us
Beds to dream in
The flotsam and jetsam of interesting lives.
